
Below are some but not all of the vegetables that we grow here at the farm.
Tomatoes |

The Early Girl is our first tomato yield of the year. You can expect the Early Girl to come in season within the first week of July. That's right, Michigan field grown tomatoes in the first part of July! This tomato produces 6-7 oz. oblate shaped fruit that have a deep red exterior and interior color, as well as an excellent flavor for such an early tomato. |

The Mountain Fresh is our largest tomato. It is in the 8-10oz. range; however, it is a bit more flavorful than the Early Girl. These tomatoes are large, smooth, deep oblate-shaped fruit and come in season around the third week of July and produce for months. |

PLUM CRIMSON is our new plum/roma tomato. Its oval shape and great taste makes this tomato great for salads and canning. The plum crimson comes in season the last two weeks of July. |

*NEW* HEIRLOOM BRANDYWINE. Heirloom tomatoes are known for their great eating quality and Brandywine is one of the best. It has very large fruit with deep pink skin and red flesh. Dating back nearly 150 years the brandywine tomato has excellent flavor and a much more meaty flesh compared to the newer varieties of tomatoes. Because of their size and quality you can expect these tomatoes in the middle of August. |

*NEW* HEIRLOOM PINEAPPLE. This yellow-pink heirloom tomato has a ribbed shoulder and is shaded with a reddish-pink stripe. The bicolor interior is yellow, marbled with red, and has a delicious fruity flavor and a smooth texture. Old German traces its roots back to the Mennonites of 1800's Virginia. This heirloom can be expected in mid to late July. |

Green Beans |

The Espadagreen bean is as tasty a green bean as you will find anywhere! They range from 4-6 inches in length and are great table fare. The espada comes in season during the first part of July. |

*NEW* ROCDOR is our new yellow wax bean. Compared the espada green bean, the rocdor has a similar taste, but it has a light yellow color. The rocdor comes in season during the first part of July. |

Brussels Sprouts |

*NEW* OLIVER BRUSSELS SPROUTS. One of our new vegetables for the upcoming year, the oliver bussels sprouts are an excellent addition to any table in the late summer. These medium sized brussls sprouts have a fantastic flavor and come in season around the last part of August. |

Broccoli |

The Diplomat variety of broccoli is a firm tightly formed vegetable great for the table. This broccoli comes in season early and late. You can expect this delight at your door in early July, and again in September through October. |

*NEW* Packman Broccoli. Packman is an earlier variety of our traditional diplomat broccoli. Packman has the same great flavor, but can be expected toward the end of June and throughout the growing season. |

Eggplant |

The Black Beauty eggplant is a medium sized vegetable great for eggplant parmesan. This firm black skinned eggplant has a silky white flesh with excellent flavor. The Black Beauty comes in season around the last week of July and continues through September. |

*NEW* LONG PURPLE EGGPLANT. This eggplant is a long cylindrical eggplant that grows to about 6-10 inches. Unlike the traditional eggplant the long purple is a mild tasting non-bitter eggplant that has very few seeds. It is great as a side dish or a pizza topping. You can expect the long purple around the last week of July. |

Peppers |

The Alliance green pepper is a large to extra-large fruit that has thick walls and an attractive green color. Its firm texture is perfect for salads, stuffing, and stir-fry. The Alliance comes in season around the third week of July and continues through October. |

The Sunsation yellow pepper is a large, smooth fruit that matures from dark green to bright golden-yellow at full maturity. This blocky shaped fruit has thick walls and a very sweet taste. The Sunsation pepper comes in season around the last week of July and continues through October. |

Lettuce |

The Black Seeded Simpson green leaf lettuce is light green, curled, with very tender leaves of top quality. This leaf lettuce is a mild tasting salad lettuce with excellent flavor and texture. The Black Seeded Simpson comes in season very early around the second week of June and continues through October. |

Summer Squash |

The Zucchini Elite is a mild tasting green zucchini great for table fare and bread. This zucchini averages 6-8 inches and comes in season around the last week of June and continues through October. |

The Gold Rush variety of zucchini is a hybrid of regular green zucchini and yellow squash. This zucchini is the smoothest tasting zucchini on the market. If I cut these in thin strips and sauté them lightly in butter, my kids think they are noodles. This zucchini averages 6-8 inches and comes in season around the last week of June and continues through October. |

Winter Squash |

This Betternut butternut squash is the most flavorful butternut squash around. It grows to about 8-10 in. with a smooth tan exterior and a deep gold interior. The butternut squash comes in season around the first week of September and continues through October. |

This Royal Ace acorn squash is as sweet and smooth tasting as they come. Its deep orange interior is a great accent to any table in the fall. The acorn squash comes in season around the first week of September and continues through October. |

Michigan Sweet Corn |

We at Martin Farms offer the peaches and cream variety of Michigan sweet corn that is super sweet with bi-colored kernels. This variety has firm kernels and are great for the barbeque, oven, or boiling. You haven’t had sweet corn until you try peaches and cream. Michigan sweet corn comes in season around the second week of July and continues through mid September. |
